How do I export my data?

Introduction

You can export all of your personal data from Cuddle at any time. This gives you a complete copy of your information for your records, analysis, or before deleting your account.

What Data You Can Export

Your export includes everything associated with your account:

Personal Information

• Name and email address
• Profile details and bio
• Account creation date
• Subscription status and history

Relationship Content

• All question responses with timestamps
• Quiz and assessment results (Love Languages, Attachment Style, etc.)
• Relationship Checkup answers and scores
• AI-generated insights and recommendations
• Exercise completion history

Check-Ins

• Mood check-in history with dates
• Gratitude entries
• Intimacy check-in records

Partner Data

• Partner pairing history (when connected/disconnected)
• Co-activity records
• Shared content interactions

App Usage

• Login history
• Feature usage statistics
• Preferences and settings
• Notification history

How to Request Your Data Export

In-App Method (Coming Soon)

We're working on an automated in-app export feature. When available:

1. Go to Profile > Settings
2. Tap "Export My Data"
3. Confirm your email address
4. Receive export file via email within 24 hours

Email Request Method (Current)

Until the in-app feature launches, request your export via email:

1. Send an email to: support@cuddle.health

2. Subject line: "Data Export Request"

3. Include:

   • Your registered email address
   • Confirmation that you own this account
   • Preferred format (see options below)

4. We'll respond within 5 business days with your data export

Verification

For security, we'll verify your identity:

• Email must come from your registered account email, OR
• We may ask you to verify from within the app

This protects your data from unauthorized access.

Export File Formats

You can request your data in these formats:

JSON Format (Default)

• Best for: Technical users, importing into other apps
• Structure: Machine-readable, organized by data type
• Size: Compact file size
• Pros: Easy to parse programmatically
• Cons: Not human-friendly to read

CSV Format

• Best for: Viewing in Excel/Google Sheets
• Structure: Spreadsheet format with separate files for each data type
• Size: Multiple CSV files in a ZIP archive
• Pros: Easy to view and analyze in spreadsheet software
• Cons: Relational data may be split across files

PDF Format

• Best for: Human-readable review, printing
• Structure: Formatted document with sections
• Size: Larger file size
• Pros: Easy to read and share
• Cons: Not easy to import elsewhere

If you don't specify, we'll send JSON format.

Timeline Coverage

Your export includes data from:

• Account creation date
• Through the date you request the export
• All historical data, not just recent activity

Privacy & Security

• Exports are sent via encrypted email to your registered address
• Download links expire after 7 days for security
• Files are password-protected (we'll send the password separately)

What's NOT Included

Your data export does NOT include:

• Your password (for security)
• Your partner's individual data (only shared interactions)
• Other users' information
• Cuddle's proprietary algorithms or content library

Partner Privacy

If you're paired:

• You'll see your responses to shared questions
• You'll see timestamps of partner interactions (e.g., when they completed something)
• You will NOT see your partner's private responses or data

How Long Does It Take?

Automated Exports (In-App)

When the feature launches:

• Request submitted instantly
• Processing: 15 minutes to 2 hours
• Delivery: Email within 24 hours

Manual Exports (Email Request)

Current timeline:

• We'll acknowledge your request within 1 business day
• Processing: 3-5 business days
• Delivery: Email with download link

After You Receive Your Export

Opening the Files

1. Download the ZIP file from the link in our email
2. Extract/unzip the archive
3. Open the README.txt file first for guidance
4. View data files in appropriate programs:
   • JSON: Text editor or JSON viewer
   • CSV: Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers
   • PDF: Any PDF reader

Understanding Your Data

The README file included in your export explains:

• What each file contains
• Data structure and field definitions
• Timestamp formats
• How to interpret quiz scores

Storing Your Export

Recommendations:

• Save to a secure location (encrypted hard drive or cloud storage)
• Don't share publicly (contains personal relationship data)
• Delete from downloads folder after saving securely
• Consider printing important insights for safekeeping

Data Export Rights

GDPR (European Users)

Under GDPR, you have the right to data portability. Cuddle complies by:

• Providing exports in machine-readable formats
• Delivering exports within 30 days (we aim for 5 business days)
• Including all personal data we hold about you

CCPA (California Users)

Under CCPA, you have the right to know what data we collect. Your export satisfies this right by providing a complete copy of your data.

Troubleshooting

Didn't Receive Your Export

If you requested an export but haven't received it:

1. Check spam/junk folders - automated emails sometimes get filtered
2. Wait the full timeline - manual requests take up to 5 business days
3. Verify email address - make sure you requested from your registered email
4. Email us again - reference your original request date

Download Link Expired

Links expire after 7 days. If yours expired:

1. Email support@cuddle.health
2. Reference your original request
3. We'll generate a new link within 1 business day

Can't Open the Files

If you're having trouble opening your export:

• ZIP file won't extract: Use a different unzip utility (7-Zip, WinRAR, The Unarchiver)
• JSON file looks messy: Use a JSON viewer or formatter (jsonviewer.stack.hu)
• CSV won't open properly: Try importing into Google Sheets instead of Excel
• Password doesn't work: Check for copy/paste errors, or request a new export

File Seems Incomplete

If your export appears to be missing data:

1. Check the README for file structure guidance
2. Verify all files in the ZIP were extracted
3. Check timestamp ranges (data is from account creation to export date)
4. Contact us if specific data is genuinely missing

Exporting Before Account Deletion

Important: Once your account is deleted, we cannot generate a data export.

If you're planning to delete your account:

1. Request export first
2. Wait to receive and verify your export is complete
3. Then proceed with account deletion

This ensures you have a copy of everything before permanent deletion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a fee for data export?

No, data exports are always free. It's your data, and we don't charge to provide it.

How many times can I request an export?

As many times as you want. There's no limit.

Will my partner know I exported data?

No, we don't notify your partner when you request an export.

Can I export only specific data?

Currently, exports include all your data. We don't offer partial exports, but you can filter the files after receiving them.

Does export include deleted content?

No. If you deleted specific responses or check-ins, those won't appear in your export.
