How do I delete my account?
Learn how to permanently delete your Cuddle account, what data is removed, and important information about GDPR and CCPA compliance.
Introduction
You can permanently delete your Cuddle account at any time. This action removes all your personal data from our servers and cannot be undone.
Before You Delete
Important Considerations
Account deletion is permanent. Once completed, you cannot:
- Recover your account
- Access your response history
- Restore quiz results or insights
- Reconnect with your previous partner connection
- Undo the deletion
Account deletion is different from:
- Canceling your subscription (you can do this without deleting your account)
- Unpairing from your partner (this keeps your account active)
- Deleting the app from your phone (this doesn't delete your account data)
Alternatives to Consider
Before deleting your account, consider if one of these options might be better:

How to Delete Your Account
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the Cuddle app
- Tap the Profile tab at the bottom
- Tap the Settings icon (gear icon in top right)
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings
- Tap "Delete Account"
- Read the warning about permanent deletion
- Confirm by tapping "Yes, Delete My Account"
- Enter your password if prompted
- Confirm one final time
Confirmation
You'll receive an email confirming that your account deletion request has been processed. The deletion takes effect immediately.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
Personal Information
- Name, email address, phone number
- Profile information and bio
- Account credentials and login information
Relationship Data
- All question responses
- Quiz and assessment results
- Exercise completions
- Check-in history (Mood, Gratitude, Intimacy)
- Relationship Checkup answers and AI insights
- Private notes and journal entries
Connection Data
- Partner pairing information
- Co-activity history
- Shared content and interactions

- App activity logs
- Preferences and settings

We delete everything associated with your account from our active systems.
What Happens to Your Partner
If you're paired with a partner when you delete your account:
- They remain unpaired automatically
- Their account stays active
- Their data remains intact
- They can see you're no longer connected but won't get specific details
- Shared history becomes unavailable to both of you
- If you had Premium, they lose Premium access unless they have their own subscription
Your partner will need to pair with someone else if they want to connect with a new partner in the future.
What About Your Subscription
Active Premium Subscription
Deleting your account does NOT automatically cancel your subscription.
If you have an active Premium subscription, you should:
- Cancel your subscription first through your app store (see how)
- Wait for confirmation that cancellation processed
- Then delete your account
If you delete your account without canceling:
- You'll still be charged until you cancel through your app store
- You won't be able to use Premium since your account is gone
- You'll need to contact Apple/Google support to cancel the orphaned subscription
Refunds
Deleting your account doesn't entitle you to a refund. Subscription refunds are handled by Apple or Google based on their policies, not account deletion.
Data Retention & Compliance
GDPR (European Users)
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request deletion (right to be forgotten)
- Export your data before deletion
Cuddle complies with GDPR requirements. Account deletion satisfies your "right to be forgotten."
CCPA (California Users)
Under CCPA, you have the right to:
- Know what data we collect
- Delete your personal information
- Opt out of data sales (we don't sell data)
Account deletion satisfies CCPA deletion requirements.
What We Keep (Legally Required)
For legal and business purposes, we may retain:
- Aggregated, anonymous analytics (not tied to you personally)
- Financial transaction records (required by law for accounting)
- Fraud prevention data (if applicable)
These retained records cannot identify you personally.
Deletion Timeline
- Immediate: Account access is terminated
- Within 24 hours: All personal data deleted from active systems
- Within 30 days: Backups containing your data are overwritten
- Within 90 days: All traces removed from all systems
We aim to complete full deletion within 30 days, though some backup systems may take up to 90 days.
After Deletion
Creating a New Account
You can create a new Cuddle account with the same email address after deletion. However:
- It will be treated as a completely new account
- None of your previous data will be restored
- You'll go through onboarding again
- You won't have access to old quiz results or responses
- Any previous partner connections won't be restored
Re-subscribing
If you had Premium and want to subscribe again:
- You'll need to start a new subscription
- Previous subscription history won't carry over
- Free trial eligibility depends on app store policies
Can't Delete Your Account?
Troubleshooting
If you don't see the "Delete Account" option:
- Update your app to the latest version
- Make sure you're logged in to the account you want to delete
- Check Settings location - it's at the very bottom of the Settings page
- Restart the app and try again

- Confirmation that you want to permanently delete your account
We'll process manual deletion requests within 5 business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my partner be notified?
No, we don't send a specific notification. They'll simply see that you're no longer paired and won't be able to access your shared history.
Can I delete just my data but keep the account?
No. Data deletion means account deletion. If you want to keep your account, you can unpair from your partner or cancel Premium, but your data remains.
What if I change my mind?
Once deletion is complete (usually within 24 hours), there's no way to reverse it. We cannot restore deleted accounts or data.
Is my data really gone?
Yes. We permanently delete all personally identifiable information. Anonymous, aggregated data may remain for analytics, but it cannot be traced back to you.
Do I need to delete the app too?
Deleting your account doesn't delete the app from your phone. If you want to remove the app:
- iPhone: Long-press the app icon > Remove App
- Android: Long-press the app icon > Uninstall
Alternative: Just Stop Using It
If you're unsure about permanent deletion, remember:
- You don't have to delete your account to stop using Cuddle
- You can cancel Premium and keep the free account indefinitely
- Your data will be there if you decide to return
- No penalty for inactive accounts
Many users take breaks and return later—account deletion isn't necessary unless you specifically want your data removed.
