How do I unpair from my partner?

Learn how to disconnect from your partner in Cuddle, what happens to your data, and how to re-pair with someone else.

Introduction

Either partner can unpair from their connected account at any time. This ends the connection between your accounts and affects Premium sharing.

How to Unpair

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Cuddle app
  2. Tap the Profile tab at the bottom
  3. Tap the Settings icon (gear icon in the top right)
  4. Scroll down to find "Unpair with Partner"
  5. Tap "Unpair with Partner"
  6. Confirm your decision when prompted

The unpairing takes effect immediately for both partners.

What Happens When You Unpair

Premium Access

  • If you were the subscriber: You keep your Premium access
  • If your partner was the subscriber: You lose Premium access immediately
  • If both had separate subscriptions: Each keeps their own Premium access

Your Data

Your individual data remains intact:

  • All your responses to questions
  • Your quiz results and insights
  • Your check-ins and journal entries
  • Your personal progress and streak

Shared Data

What changes:

  • Your partner no longer appears in your Activities feed
  • You can't see each other's new check-ins or completions
  • Comparison views (like Relationship Checkup) are no longer available
  • Co-activities history is archived but not deleted

Previous Responses

Your past responses and quiz results remain saved in your account. They're just no longer shared with your former partner.

Reasons People Unpair

Ending a Relationship

If you're no longer together, unpairing ensures privacy and ends the shared connection.

Pairing with Someone New

You can only be paired with one partner at a time. If you're in a new relationship, you'll need to unpair first, then connect with your new partner.

Technical Issues

Sometimes unpairing and re-pairing can resolve connection glitches. You can re-pair with the same partner immediately after unpairing.

Premium Management

If you want to switch which partner holds the Premium subscription, you may need to unpair temporarily.

Re-Pairing with the Same Partner

You can re-pair with the same partner anytime:

  1. One partner generates a new invite code in Profile
  2. The other partner enters the code
  3. You'll be reconnected with all your individual data intact

Your previous shared history won't automatically reconnect, but your individual responses remain saved.

Re-Pairing with a Different Partner

After unpairing, you can connect with a new partner:

  1. Complete the unpairing process
  2. Get a new invite code from your new partner (or generate one)
  3. Follow the standard connection process

Important Notes

Can't Undo

Unpairing is immediate and can't be undone. If you unpair by mistake, you'll need to go through the pairing process again.

Premium Cancellation

Unpairing does NOT cancel your Premium subscription. If you also want to cancel Premium, you must do so separately through your app store. See How do I cancel my subscription?

Account Deletion

Unpairing is NOT the same as deleting your account. Your account remains active. To delete your account entirely, see How do I delete my account?

Both Partners Need Separate Subscriptions After Unpairing

Once unpaired, if you both want to continue using Premium features independently, you'll each need your own subscription. Only paired partners can share one Premium subscription.
